Crockpot Soup Recipes

I like to divide my crockpot soup recipes into three categories. The first category is one in which you are using a ready-made stock or broth; the second is when the broth is being made along with the rest of the soup; and the last is when you are simply making a stock for later use as an ingredient.

The reason I divide my recipes into these groups is that the approach to making them differs. For instance, if you are using stock or broth as an ingredient, you won't need to cook the soup for as long to extract the flavor. If you are including lots of bones, or a tougher cut of meat with the intention of creating a nice broth, then you need to use a low heat over a long period of time (and you'll need to make sure you have time to remove bones before serving). Making a stock or broth for later use is more of a stand-alone than a category, as the process is the same no matter what kind of stock you are making.

Martin Yan said that if you have a good broth you will have a good soup, and I believe this completely. You can use just about any meat, vegetable, spice or herb with any good broth and you will have a good soup. But having said that, there are some classic soup recipes for slow cookers that stand out as classics, and here are some of my all-time favorites:
